Happy New Year!
From our family to yours we hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. We had a wonderful time celebrating the birth of Christ. Our festivities started out with the Lighthouse Kids Church Sunday School program on December 10 and the following Sunday was followed by the very special annual carol service. A musical reflecting the wonder of Christ’s birth and how He came down from Heaven to meet us where we are.
…families were so grateful as many of them usually only cook once a day and ration it for three meals a day due to lack of finances…
We can’t even begin to express our gratitude for all of you who supported our hamper project this year. We shopped for 80 hampers this year and the grocery store gave a generous discount. The hampers were full basic necessities and fun treats. I think nearly 35 items were purchased. We distributed them to a village in need. We helped a local Pastor and a Police officer conduct a Christmas program. The message of Jesus’s birth was shared and our centre kids performed some Christmas songs. It was a special day. Nishanthe said the families were so grateful as many of them usually only cook once a day and ration it for three meals a day due to lack of finances.
Because of the generosity in your giving we also purchased really nice back packs for all the kids for Christmas.
Our next highlight was the Centre Christmas party. Kids came dressed their best and we had multiple stations like face painting, cookie decorating and games for the kids. Then the kids performed some Christmas songs and a special lady who has had a big impact on young lives all over Sri Lanka named Auntie Shanthi shared the Christmas message in a very special way. We hope and pray it left a mark on their hearts. Because of the generosity in your giving we also purchased really nice back packs for all the kids for Christmas. They were thrilled to receive it.
These things make Christmas so special to us and really help us share the love of Jesus at such a perfect time. We are believing for lives to be impacted and in due time forever changed. The rest of the holiday season was spent visiting friends and family. We also did some traveling as my brother was visiting us from Canada.
Classes have started again at the centre. We together with our 3 staff have been hard at work reprogramming the year of event and classes at the centre. I am back at teaching my English class once a week. Nish has classes all 4 days of the week. We have seen some 4 to 5 new kids register this month. So things are really off to a good start for the year.
We are still anxiously waiting to move into our home. The new completion day is set for the end of this month…
Nishanthe is actually out station this whole week teaching on Creative Ways to Minister to Kids at Kidsreach. Something he does on an annual basis. We also are again overseeing Sunday school at our home church here.
We are still anxiously waiting to move into our home. The new completion day is set for the end of this month but there is still a lot to get done. Pray for its completion so we get back to a sense of normalcy with our home life.
We are gearing up to host a missions team from BC in March. We are making all the detailed plans and making the schedule for all that the team will do with us. Its always a highlight to have friends come and partner with us here.
When we were in Canada this past summer we were blessed with some extra finances for the Centre and we are happy to report we have done some developments on the exterior of the centre. We built walls around the property, a few retaining wall that have expanded our play ground space and drive ways space. Its starting to make the outdoor space more user friendly and fun for us and all who attend. God has put so many of generous churches and individuals along our path and we are so very grateful.
Our family continues to be in good health and we are thankful for it. Aneisha has started another term at school and is really doing well. The two others are loving life at the centre and all the fun they have with our staff and all the kids. Their language learning is also improving in being around everyone as well.
It has been stressful also building a house with all the delays and challenges from workers … not to mention the financial burden of it all.
It has been a challenge living at the centre, I can’t lie. There have been good and bad days. It has been stressful also building a house with all the delays and challenges from workers … not to mention the financial burden of it all. We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I think when it’s all said and done we will not take it for granted … what a blessing the home will be to our family!
So this brings us all up to date on all that’s been happening in our journey here in Sri Lanka. We are believing for big things this year. That the centre will continue to be a place of opportunity for kids. That our staff will flourish in their efforts to make this place a place of impact in the lives of all who come. A big thanks to all who follow our journey and pray for us and bless us time and time again with words of encouragement and the support we need to press forward month after month, year after year.
May the Lord Bless You & Yours as we all faithfully seek the will of God in each of our lives.
