Sri Lanka – August Update
Ayubowan from Sri Lanka!Hey Everyone,Exactly one year ago we were finishing up our itineration in Canada. What a great time we had and as a new year soon approaches we will soon be planning our next visit to Canada. So stay tuned for that. Most likely it will be around the months of July, August, September of 2019. I don’t know about you but the days, months, and years just seem to be flying by so its our challenge to make the most of it.This newsletter is packed with some great stuff that has been happening in and through our lives. Also just to share my heart a little on how God is guiding our steps. I get the sense that we are in a season of change and God is deepening our passion and focus on a few key things. He wants us to focus on quality and not quantity. So check out whats been happening and whats coming up in the next months.
We hosted an Everest themed VBS at Lighthouse Church Kandy from Augsut 6th to 9th. There were about 110 kids and 30 support staff(crew leaders). This was a combined event for the Sinhala, Tamil and English Sunday School departments of Lighthouse Church. Church kids also brought along school friends and smaller branch churches sent along their kids.
It was a great time! We learned that God has the power to provide, heal, forgive, comfort and Love Us Forever. It really was awesome! Some of the children asked Jesus into their hearts and I believe others increased their faith from all that they learned. Praise be to God!
We continue to walk in a leadership role at Lighthouse Sunday school. Nishanthe is seeing his class really begin to open up about their faith and life challenges. He works with the 11, 12, 13 year old kids. Throughout September to December we will be preparing for our Christmas production.
Ministry Report - Lanka Faith Mission
Recently we attended the dedication service for a new church building in our village. This church is Pastored by Nishanthe's brother and sister-in-law (pictured here) It's just down the road from our BUD Centre and we are very excited to see many miracles God has done to bring this new building to completion. Nishanthe was part of this church plant 10 or more years ago. We believe with their church and our Centre there will be a big impact in the village to win souls for Christ. It is truly an exciting season for us to be in! The fields are ripe and the harvest is there for the taking.
– for our family as we transition ourselves to teach our children at home and reorganize our lives.
– For the BUD Centre as we anticipate the next term. We have a Hamper Project ready to get underway. Stay tuned for more details about how YOU can be involved in that!
– For God to help us dream big for our ministry and how we can have an impact in the lives of those we work with.
Bud Centre is takinga two week holiday break. The kid’s are anxiously awaiting the return to Centre activities. They love it so much they didn’t want the break but the staff and our family needed it! Our attendance is up to 35 per day now and about 10 mothers taking in our weekly cooking class. The highlight of the term was an exhibition of experiments the children did. They were very proud to show off what they had learned over the months.
.We are loving our new home. Its a peaceful place to call our own. Not a day goes by that we don’t thank God for giving us a place to call home. Our family is in for another big shift as we have decided this September to homeschool our kids. It was a decision we have been thinking about for a few years now and we are now taking the leap. There are many reasons why we made this decision but it all comes down to making our life better to our ministry commitments and to the quality of life we want to give our children so that we are giving the best we can give. We also might be heading to Thailand as a family for Nishanthe and I to take a training program that is highly recommended by PAOC Missions and will benefit the Centre. Just trying to finalize some details on that. So life is never a dull moment around here.
